Kevin and Chelsea crushing it

April 27, 2010 (words via text from Kevin Yolken)

Today is a forced rest day, thunderstorms and heavy rain.  We are ninety miles from the California border, last night the town we are in literally flooded. The streets were rivers, it rained hard on us yesterday and the wind was forty miles an hour head wind. We were going eight miles an hour downhill and if we stopped pedaling, we were blown backwards. The day before was ninety five mile day though (yeah guys!!!!!). Personal record for both of us, the worst of this storm is supposed to pass today so hopefully we can reach California tomorrow.

We are 564 miles in, with 1100 to go, it is Day nine. Now, you can’t beat tonight! Normally when you gamble and win money they comp you a hotel room. Well, this casino had their hotel under construction so instead they offered us some grass to pitch our tent in so we didn’t ride our bikes a half mile to the campsite after drinking. Great night already

Keep charging guys, you guys are doing great things and the people of High Fives love it!

Top of a pass in Oregon

Words by Kevin thru a Text Message

“Yesterday was horrible, pouring rain, huge mountains…Took us two hours to get a ride across a narrow logging bridge. I got a flat five miles from town, tore my tire, got a flat two miles later and had to walk to town. Had to wait for the bike shop to open at 10am to get a new tire and fix my bent bike from the hole I hit. Late start but good day.”
