Jared English
In June of 2023, Jared was mountain biking at his local downhill bike park, a place he frequented often. During a run down his favorite trail, a sudden thunderstorm rolled in. He was riding with his brother-in-law and a few friends when, while navigating a wooden feature, his bike slid out from under him. Jared fell 15 feet onto the rocks below, breaking his C1/C2 and T4/T5 vertebrae. His brother-in-law quickly started performing rescue breaths for 30 minutes until the EMTs arrived, as Jared’s diaphragm and everything below his chin were paralyzed. He was then taken to the NTICU, where he stayed for two weeks before being transferred to Craig Hospital to begin his recovery. After a few months with no movement below his chin, his diaphragm miraculously began to function again, and he slowly started to regain muscular control.
