The M. Scott Roberds Memorial Charity Golf Tournament at Gray’s Crossing was an unforgettable day for the High Fives Foundation and its dedicated supporters. With the sun shining brightly over Truckee, CA, a passionate group of golfers gathered to raise funds and awareness for the 866 High Fives Athletes that we proudly serve.
One of the highlights of the day came from High Fives Athlete Shelby Estocado, who participated in her first full tournament as an adaptive athlete.
“I had a blast playing in the M Scott Roberds Memorial Charity Golf Tournament, and we had the best weather all day! It was my first full tourney as an adaptive athlete, and I had an amazing team supporting me all the way. I chipped my first 50-footer right into the hole, and I wish we had cameras on it! But everyone probably heard my team from a distance celebrating at the top of our lungs. Seeing how many supporters love giving back to High Fives amazes me every year! Thank you for continuing to help grow our Ohana.”
High Fives Athlete #311, Shelby Estocado shared her joy and excitement
The tournament featured a variety of unique and fun challenges to the traditional game of golf. Participants enjoyed activities such as the “Baseball Bat Long Drive” on Hole 1, sponsored by Smith Optics, where players swapped their clubs for a bat and aimed to send their golf balls soaring. Over at Hole 3, the excitement ramped up with Lake Tahoe School’s “Golf Ball Cannon,” allowing players to launch their golf balls out of a cannon for a thrilling experience.
On Hole 4, women golfers vied for the “Closest to the Pin” title, sponsored by Dolan Auto Group, while the men had their own contest on Hole 11. Other fun challenges included the “Ski Boot Long Drive” on Hole 12, sponsored by Palisades Tahoe, where players strapped on ski boots and attempted a powerful drive. Crestwood Construction’s Elevated Tee Box on Hole 7 offered another exciting challenge, and the classic “Break the Glass” game at the clubhouse, sponsored by Northwestern Mutual, gave participants a shot at smashing their way to a prize.
There were several opportunities for participants to test their long drive skills, with women competing on Hole 9 (sponsored by Realm Constructors) and men competing on Hole 18 (sponsored by Head). The tournament also featured a Hole-in-One contest, including a chance to win a one-year lease on an RZ 450E, sponsored by Dolan Auto Group.
The tournament was a great success, with Guild Mortgage taking 1st place in the Gross category, scoring 57, and the Happy Boys claiming 1st in the Net category with Bonnie Balls, scoring 27. Swift Institute came in 2nd place in the Net category with a score of 35. The Golf Dilettantes finished last, while Clint Stitser won the Baseball Bat Long Drive challenge.
