Kurtis Usher
Kurtis’s injury occurred on 6 June 2020, while he was mountain biking near his neighborhood. He was riding a figure-eight loop trail with a firend, having already passed through the area twice in 20 minutes. After navigating a berm with low jumps, he attempted to connect two rollers into a long jump. Unsure of what went wrong – whether he cased the jump or bumped his rear wheel too early – he realized he had veered off the trail just before leaving the lip. Anticipating the crash, he tried to tuck and roll but landed back-first into a large tree. As a result of the crash, Kurtis suffered a complete spinal cord injury at the T9-T10 level.
