ATF Takes Tahoe 2025 Recap

A Week of Strength, Community, and Connection

From August 17–23, eight adaptive athletes gathered on the shores of Lake Tahoe for a week unlike any other. Together with the Adaptive Training Foundation (ATF) and High Fives Foundation, they pushed limits, discovered new passions, and built a community that will carry far beyond this one incredible week.

A Week in Motion

The schedule was packed with movement and meaning:

  • Two daily training sessions with ATF’s expert staff
  • Art therapy and journaling to support mental health
  • Horseback riding with Equine Therapy
  • Time on the water—wake surfing and paddling across Tahoe’s iconic blue expanse

Each day offered new challenges and new opportunities for growth, connection, and joy.

Meet the Trainers

Behind the week’s success were three dedicated trainers from ATF, each bringing their own experience and passion

Every athlete brought a unique journey to Tahoe—each story powerful, personal, and inspiring.

Sophie, a former ski racer and #HighFivesAthlete, sustained a T6 spinal cord injury in 2012 when she was struck by another skier during a warm-up run. More than a decade later, she hasn’t stopped chasing adventure. “Nothing beats a week of learning more about fitness and new sports,” she said after diving into new activities at Tahoe.

For Brierley, the week was a reminder of how far she’s come in a short time:
“Little over six months, four hospital stays, two wheelchairs and one hell of a fight… lucky to be coasting blue waters and chasing some sun. Being paralyzed has been more than just physically painful, but for every person that has walked away, I’ve found just as many folks who’ve stayed and fought right alongside me. Here’s to finding a little peace in the blue.”

Thank You

A huge thank you to our partners at the Adaptive Training Foundation for bringing this camp to life, and to the incredible athletes who inspire us all with their courage, drive, and positivity.
