DAN SOLLER, THE DANIMAL

HIGH FIVES ATHLETE #230

On October 7, 2018, on the closing day of Crested Butte's bike park, Dan Soller and his friend Joel set out for one last ride after a rainy day in western Colorado. A few laps in, they approached a familiar tabletop jump, unaware that a fallen tree had obscured the landing area. When Dan hit the jump, he landed on the tree, snapping his bike's fork and striking his chest with enough force to instantly paralyze him. A couple riding behind them quickly called ski patrol, leading to Dan being airlifted to Grand Junction. After his hospital discharge, he connected with the High Fives Foundation, whose support helped him navigate life after his injury. Remarkably, just four to five months later, Dan was back on a bike, demonstrating his determination to return to the outdoors he loved.
