Brennan was injured May 12, 2023, while snowboarding at Whitsler Blackcomb’s terrain park. It was a sunny, slushy day with rapidly changing riding conditions. Brennan attempted a double wildcat (backflip), a trick he’d performed many times before, but initiated a bit too fast over-rotating, and landing on his back. He sustained multiple broken vertebrae and severed his spinal cord.
