Emily Nappi
While skiing, Emily sustained multiple concussions and shoulder dislocations caused by an undiagnosed neuro-cardiac condition that triggers sudden pauses in heart rhythm. During a crash on patrol, a colleague reached her within seconds and recognized the cardiac pause–something missed in earlier incidents–leading to the placement of a loop recorder that confirmed the diagnosis. A subsequent collaps while working as an EMT, during which she fell face-first onto a curb, ultimately ended her career in emergency medical services.
