On November 22, 2016, Weischedel was ski touring with some friends at Mad River Glen in Fayston, Vt. Excited to ski the fresh early-season snow, Weischedel and friends were racing down the hill when he hit a jump and was propelled forward causing him to double eject from both bindings, landing directly on his head. Following impact Weischedel couldn’t lift his head, and he laid still while his friends stabilized his head and neck while they cleared snow from his face. He laid there for the next two hours until paramedics were able to reach him.

Following his emergency extraction, Weischedel was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H. After a successful surgery, doctors told Weischedel that he had suffered an incomplete spinal cord injury at the C7 level.

“I’m bigger than this. I can beat this.”
