While dirt biking in the desert a few miles from his house, Nick’s rear brake cable broke unexplainably. When he glanced down to check the cable, he drifted across the road and struck a large rock on the shoulder of the road. This threw him over the handlebars and down a steep embankment. This accident resulted in broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a complete spinal cord injury at his T9 vertebra.
