While vacationing in Hawaii, Steven was body surfing at Hapuna Beach. A wave overtook his body and forced him into the sand bar below. His injury was severe. He burst-fractured C2 and 3. He had surgery were he was fused front and back from c1-c5. He has no movement or feeling from the shoulders down. Occasionally, Steven is able to wiggle a finger or two.
