B.A.S.I.C.S. Program Service – Camp Two

The B.A.S.I.C.S. Program Service has seen a tremendous amount of exposure, growth and popularity since its inception in the summer of 2011. Camp One was held in Park City, Utah at the Utah Olympic Park in the fall of 2011 and featured a focus on air awareness through trampoline and water ramp training on skis. Four select skiers and seven world class professional skiers served as coaches.

This winter, the progression continues with four selected skiers (Reef Schott, Rocket Bryan, Logan and Cody LaPlante) who have been selected as campers to ski with a rotating base of accomplished coaches at Squaw Valley (March 19-21).

Day two involved a sit-in with the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol for their morning meeting at 8am as well as an on-snow demonstration by veteran Ski Patrol member, Chris Gray. Chris showed the campers how the Ski Patrol opens the mountain on a daily basis. From line closures and openings, to bamboo pole placement marking the terrain, the young skiers witnessed the amazing work that goes into keeping our mountains safe. Thank you the the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol and Chris Gray for allowing us to learn from the best!

The afternoon session illuminated safe practices in the terrain park. Guest ski coach Sean Carey (Truckee, CA) along with Program Director – JT Holmes guided the campers through the park in inclement conditions while teaching the skills necessary to make educated decisions while freestyle skiing. Thanks to Sean Carey for his time!
