Hailing from the Midwest, Tyler spent his childhood chasing his two older brothers around Rockford, Illinois. He later transitioned to the University of Iowa, spent a semester as skipper of the Jungle Cruise in the Walt Disney World College Program, and then proceeded to graduate. Tyler’s first position after higher learning took him to the Rocky Mountains, however, a visit to the Tahoe area lured him to the Eastern Sierra. Mr. Lightcap then found himself enjoying a fruitful career at Wells Fargo and subsequently made Truckee his home. For the last seven years Tyler has been facilitating growth in the community of Truckee, CA.

AFTER TRAVELING THE WORLD, STARTING A BAND,  LIVING ON A BOAT, AND CREATING MULTIPLE BUSINESSES, GALEN RETURNED TO MEET HIS WIFE, SHAYLA, START A FAMILY AND DIG HIS ROOTS EVEN DEEPER INTO THE NORTH TAHOE/TRUCKEE/RENO GREATER COMMUNITY. A SOUTH SIDE CHICAGO NATIVE, PATRICK CLICKED INTO HIS FIRST PAIR OF SKIS AT SQUAW VALLEY IN 1984 WHILE FOLLOWING HIS FATHER AROUND ON A BUSINESS TRIP TO CALIFORNIA. AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, PATRICK HEADED WEST TO ATTEND THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO, BOULDER WHERE HE STUDIED ECONOMICS AND GRADUATED IN 1997. PATRICK HEARD THE COAST CALLING AND MOVED TO SAN FRANCISCO WHERE HE WORKED FOR A DERIVATIVES MARKET MAKING FIRM AND IN  INTERNATIONAL PRIVATE EQUITY, SPECIALIZING IN ALL FACETS OF FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS. AFTER ACQUIRING HIS M.S. Luka Starmer | Reno, NV

After adaptive ski instructing with some High Fives Athletes, Luka showed up in 2013 as an unpaid intern hoping to learn more about grant writing. Later that summer he worked his way into a part-time position, overseeing thank-you shipments and office work. Before long, he solidified his crucial role in the organization, taking over all grant writing and PR efforts. He’s grown a multitude of skills working with the Foundation that have excelled him into other projects and eventually graduate school. Instead of leaving High Fives, he was nominated to the Board of Directors to continue contributing to the amazing impact the Foundation has on the entire mountain sports community that he loves.

JASON BADGLEY | DENVER, CO

JASON BADGLEY FOUND HIS LOVE FOR MOUNTAIN SPORTS AT A YOUNG AGE AT TITUS MOUNTAIN IN UPSTATE NEW YORK. THROUGHOUT HIS YOUTH, EVERY FREE MOMENT WAS SPENT AT THE MOUNTAIN, LEARNING HOW TO SKI AND BOARD, AND TRYING TO BUILD JUMPS THAT SKI PATROLLERS COULDN’T FIND AND KNOCK DOWN. DURING HIGH SCHOOL HE WORKED AS BOTH AS AN INSTRUCTOR AND IN THE RENTAL SHOP, AND THAT’S WHEN THE DREAM TO WORK IN THE WINTER SPORTS INDUSTRY HIT HIM. FROM 2003 TO 2013, JASON ATTENDED COLORADO MOUNTAIN COLLEGE IN STEAMBOAT SPRINGS AND MAJORED IN SKI AND SNOWBOARD BUSINESS. UPON GRADUATION HE MADE A POINT TO WORK IN VIRTUALLY EVERY ASPECT OF THE SKI AND SNOWBOARD INDUSTRY TO LEARN THE INNER WORKINGS AND BETTER UNDERSTAND THE BIG PICTURE OF BUSINESS. FROM BEING A SALES REP TO RETAIL MANAGEMENT, PRODUCTION STAFF TO WAREHOUSE SUPERVISOR, ATHLETE MARKETING MANAGER TO GRAPHIC DESIGNER, JASON BADGLEY FOUND HIS FIT AS CEO OF THE RAPIDLY GROWING FACEMASK AND SPORTS ACCESSORIES COMPANY, PHUNKSHUN WEAR, LLC. OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS JASON HAS MADE IT HIS PRIORITY TO BRING AWARENESS OF THE HIGH FIVES FOUNDATION TO COLORADO, HOLDING MULTIPLE FUNDRAISING EVENTS IN DIFFERENT CAPACITIES.

Matt Francis | Reno, NV

In the areas of intellectual property litigation, prosecution, licensing and entertainment law, Matt Francis vigorously protects and defends valuable intellectual property rights. Matt litigates trademark, unfair competition, patent, copyright, and trade secret actions in courts throughout Nevada, and has litigated in numerous other jurisdictions as well. Matt has prosecuted hundreds of trademarks at the federal and state level, and has participated in many opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). He also assists clients in obtaining foreign trademark registrations, and handles trademark portfolios for large institutional clients. Matt has years of experience negotiating complex trademark, patent, and copyright licenses and entertainment contracts on behalf of musicians, authors, photographers and other artists. He has also assisted clients in numerous commercial disputes and contractual negotiations. Prior to joining Brownstein, Matt was a partner at Watson Rounds, a firm Brownstein acquired on September 1, 2015.

THAIS COMPLETED HER DOCTORATE OF PHYSICAL THERAPY AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY IN 2004. SHE HAS TAKEN NUMEROUS OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPAND UPON HER EDUCATION, INCLUDING STUDYING MANUAL TREATMENT OF THE SPINE IN AUSTRALIA AND ATTENDING FREQUENT SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. THAIS HAS ENJOYED A RANGE OF EXPERIENCES FROM WORKING WITH THE USA TRACK CYCLING TEAM AT THE 2016 RIO OLYMPIC GAMES, TO HELPING CRITICALLY INJURED PATIENTS IN THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT AT RENOWN MEDICAL CENTER. SHE TAKES PRIDE IN EMPOWERING HER PATIENTS TO REACH THEIR MAXIMUM LEVEL OF FUNCTION AND LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST. SHE IS PASSIONATE ABOUT WORKING WITH HIGH FIVES ATHLETES AND IS LOOKING FORWARD TO CONTINUED COLLABORATION WITH THE HIGH FIVES FOUNDATION IN ORDER TO HELP THE ATHLETES ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS.

Dr. James Lynch | Reno, NV

Dr. James Lynch is a board-certified neurosurgeon with 19 years of experience, who specializes in complex spine surgery, cervical disorders, degenerative spine, spinal deformities, trauma, tumor infection and minimally invasive spine surgery. Becker’s Orthopedic & Spine Review has announced that Dr. Lynch has been selected for the 100 of the Best Spine Surgeons and Specialists in America list in 2011.He earned his medical degree from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, followed by a residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Lynch went on to complete a spine fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queens Square, London, UK, followed by a spine fellowship at Mayo Clinic and an additional spine fellowship under Volker Sonntag, MD, at the prestigious Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ. As a leading authority on Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) development, Dr. Lynch lectures at national meetings on outpatient spine surgery. He serves as Chairman and Director of Spine Programs at Surgery Center of Reno, NV.

Bill Hudson | Olympic Valley, CA

Bill Hudson was raised in Squaw Valley, California. An eight year U.S. Ski Team member, national combined champion, x-games silver medalist, and 1988 Olympic Team Member, skiing is in his blood, as his mother (Sally) was also an Olympian (Oslo, 1952). In addition to the High Fives board, Bill is a current or past board member of a number of local non-profits. Bill worked in the ski industry from 1995 through 2016. For most of that time he was the Executive Director of the Sugar Bowl Ski Team and Academy, developing one of the world’s finest college preparatory sports academies and ski teams. He now helps people enjoy mountain life styles with Elder Group Tahoe Engel and Volkers real estate. Bill enjoys life, especially hanging out with his wife Kathrin and children Sophia, Bodie, and McCoy as well as Spike the dog.

Scott Roberds | Olympic Valley, CA

Scott grew up skiing in Connecticut at Ski Sundown. While attending University of Tennessee @ Chattanooga, he began a startup plastics company, eventually relocating the company to Florida. Scott is Co-founder & President of MicroLumen, which has become a worldwide leader in the development of high performance medical plastics, used throughout the low-invasive cardiovascular medical device industry. He moved to Squaw Valley, USA in 2008 to be closer to the outdoors and the things he is passionate about, and the positive attitude and community involvement the people of Lake Tahoe offer. He reached out to Roy and High Fives Foundation, after learning about its mission to raise awareness for athletes that have suffered life-altering injuries while pursuing their dreams. Scott brings his experience and his passion for winter sports to his new role on the Board of Directors.

Sam Gharabally | San Francisco, CA

Sam Gharabally grew up riding in the small but bone chilling foothills of Minnesota (elev. 1,075′). He moved East to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he honed his abilities to write code — that is, carve the gnarly ice of Wachusett Mountain (elev. 2,006 ft). This effort was for nought, as Sam was pulled Westward by the opportunity to build iTunes at Apple in 2004. He swiftly made Tahoe his second (first?) home, organizing ski leases with top athletes, winning costume contests, and spreading good cheer (and high fives!) all throughout Olympic Valley. He is passionate about helping athletes achieve their goals and inspiring others to chase their dreams. In his spare time, Sam plays drums in the band Speeding Ticket (a Chammy favorite!) and leads the And Go… team for the annual Tour de Cure cycling event benefiting the American Diabetes Association.

Anthony D. Slonim, MD, DrPH | Reno, NV

Dr. Slonim is an innovator and proven leader in healthcare on both the regional and national levels. He has served as the president and ceo at Renown Health for the last 3 years. Under his leadership, Renown Health has welcomed numerous community partnerships and strategic collaborations. Most recently, Renown collaborated with the Desert Research Institute, governor’s office and personal genetic company, 23andMe, to pioneer one of the world’s leading community-based genetic health studies aimed at improving population health. Dr. Slonim also led affiliations with Stanford Medicine; the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine; and St. George’s University, Grenada to expand specialty and subspecialty care available to northern Nevadans and bring more care providers to the Silver State. Dr. Slonim serves on the board of the American Association of Physician Leaders and chairs the Truckee Meadows Healthy Communities and Certified Medical Representatives Institute boards.

Ryan Williams | Truckee, CA

Ryan Williams has been a staple in the Truckee community for past decade helping businesses and families create financial security with investments, life insurance and disability insurance with Northwestern Mutual. He moved to Truckee in 1995 as a professional snowboarder for Burton Snowboards, and became an X Games medalist by 1998, while featured in Warren Miller and Standard Films movies and dozens of international publications. He was fortunate to meet his wife Natalia, who was on the Burton team at the same time, and today they enjoy the Truckee community with their seven year old daughter. Recognized for community involvement, Ryan Williams is a proud partner of High Fives Non-Profit Foundation, Board Director of KidZone Museum, Tahoe Forest Hospital Sports Medicine/Orthopedic Advisory Board Member and Rotarian. The mission of The High Fives Foundation fits directly in line with his mission, dedicated to helping people pursue their dreams, with the best possible tools.

Esbert Cardenas Jr | Stowe, VT

A native of Miami, Fl (now an endangered species), Esbert started Image Outfitters in 1998 after spending 13 years in the seafood industry. Image Outfitters is a distributor of promotional products that gives 10% of sales back to nonprofits. Together with his wife Kirsten, they grew their business gradually for 10 years. As the business grew, so did the family, and in 2008 the Cardenas family relocated to Stowe after visiting and falling in love with the town and its people. Esbert has made significant contributions to the growth and promotion of High Fives throughout northern Vermont and the East Coast.

Ed Lewis started SNOCRU, an award winning ski and snowboard tracking app, connecting skiers and snowboarders to the mountains on all levels. It was recently ranked by Snowboard Magazine, Wired Magazine, Tech Cocktail, Freeskier Magazine, and SKI Magazine as the #1 best snowsports app. Ed has been a mega proponent of High Fives throughout it’s history.
