The Empowerment Fund

High Fives Foundation focuses on preventing life-changing injuries and provides resources and hope if they happen.

The High Fives Foundation's Empowerment Fund offers two grant cycles each year, designed to support individuals recovering from life-altering injuries in pursuing goals related to outdoor adventure sports. Learn more about how each cycle is structured below.

Terms of Eligibility

Applicants must meet our terms of eligibility to be chosen as recipients of the Empowerment Fund. Fill out our Eligibility Form below to see if you are eligible.

Two Grant Cycles per Year

Applications must be submitted with a minimum of 24 hours left in the cycle period to account for processing and approval time.

Grant Cycle 1

January - March

Application Window: January 1 - 31
Review Period: February
Decision Notifications: By March 1

Grant Cycle 2

July - September

Application Window: July 1 - 31
Review Period: August
Decision Notifications: By September 1

Injured in Outdoor Adventure Sports
Applicants can apply for funding in all six funding categories.

Service-Connected Veterans
Veterans can apply for adaptive sports equipment under the five pillar sports.

Inertia-Based Accidents
Applicants injured in non-sports-related accidents can apply, but only for adaptive sports equipment under the five pillar sports.

The Empowerment Fund provides resources and inspiration to those who suffer a life-changing injury. These include spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, amputation or other mobility-limiting injuries that occurred in an individual's lifetime.

The resources and inspiration that High Fives provides comes in the form of Board-approved grant funding, paid to service providers in specific funding categories: adaptive sports equipment, healing network, medical equipment, programs, living expenses, and emergency care/injury expenses.
