The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990 and 34 years later, we continue to celebrate and grow. High Fives Foundation and accessiBe announce their partnership dedicated to making websites as accessible as the front doors of businesses. This collaboration aims to enhance inclusion and accessibility on the web, ensuring equal access for people with disabilities.
As a leader in web accessibility, accessiBe is committed to raising awareness about the importance of an inclusive web. Partnering with the High Fives Foundation, known for its dedication to supporting individuals with life-changing injuries, amplifies this mission. Together, we strive to close the web accessibility gap and promote inclusion.
The Fundraiser That Started It All
In 2016, the High Fives Foundation launched a fundraiser to install an ADA-compliant power front door at the C.R. Johnson Healing Center. This initiative aimed to make the center more accessible to everyone, particularly the High Fives Athletes who rely on its services daily. The successful completion of this project underscored the importance of accessibility, inspiring a broader vision: making websites as accessible as physical spaces.
Recognizing the critical need for digital accessibility, the High Fives Foundation and accessiBe have joined forces to extend their mission online. By ensuring that websites are accessible to all, they aim to foster an inclusive digital environment that mirrors the accessibility standards set for physical spaces.
Joshua Basile, a C4-5 quadriplegic, trial attorney, founder of SPINALpedia, High Fives Ambassador and accessiBe’s Community Relations Manager, is a passionate advocate for web accessibility. As a High Fives Foundation Ambassador, Joshua’s story exemplifies the transformative power of accessibility.
“Digital accessibility is a necessity for everyone and can be a lifeline for people with disabilities. Nonprofits like the High Fives Foundation that prioritize and support an inclusive internet play a crucial role in forging a future with more opportunities for connection, empowerment, and participation for everyone, regardless of their abilities. This partnership is a testament to the progress that can be made when everyone is valued and empowered to thrive and participate in society, both on and offline.”
