8th Annual High Fives Foundation Bocce Tournament Raises $9,000 for Injured Mountain Sports Athletes
The Longest Running Bocce Fundraiser in Truckee Tahoe
The High Fives Foundation completed their 8th Annual Bocce Tournament last Sunday, September 18th, hosted at Truckee River Winery in Truckee. $9,000 was raised and the event was deemed a major success thanks to title sponsors GoPro, Truckee River Winery, Guild Mortgage Company, & Cojo Bay Advisors.
This event raised $9,000 towards the mission of the High Fives Foundation that gives grant funding to mountain action sports athletes who have suffered major injuries such as spinal cord or brain injuries.
This is the longest consecutively running bocce fundraiser in Lake Tahoe.
“This tournament is the only annual tournament I know of in this area,” says Katy Jones, Director of the Tasting Room at the Truckee River Winery. “There are a lot of bocce leagues, but nothing quite like the High Fives tournament, and there’s certainly nothing as successful when it comes to raising money.
Following the 10 A.M. registration, teams played on the six crushed oyster courts on the winery premise. Teams were gifted wine glasses and t-shirts plus lunch from Fireside Pizza.
Competitors won prizes from local shops and companies, plus amazing gear from GoPro, Oakley, Outdoor Tech, and Arcade Belts. The silent auction was highly successful, and there were beer specials from Auburn Ale House and wine specials from Truckee River Winery.
“It’s really great to see our hometown support,” said Roy Tuscany, High Fives Foundation Executive Director. “But more importantly, our athletes can see see the massive outpouring of locals who helps care about their recoveries.”
