For the past decade, Military to the Mountains (M2M) has helped U.S. veterans and first responders rediscover strength, purpose, and possibility through the healing power of adaptive skiing and snowboarding.
Created in partnership with High Fives Foundation, Palisades Tahoe, Solitude Mountain Resort, the Adaptive Training Foundation, and City of Reno / Reno Adaptive, Military to the Mountains introduces veterans and first responders with life-changing injuries to goal setting, athleticism, and community in the mountains.
Since its inception in 2015, Military to the Mountains has supported more than 250 veterans and first responders, providing 100% free access to training, travel, lodging, lift tickets, adaptive equipment, and apparel. No cost. No barriers. Just opportunity.
Each year, participants are selected through the Adaptive Training Foundation in Dallas, Texas, and the City of Reno, Nevada. They complete nine weeks of personal training, preparing for one transformative week of skiing and snowboarding at world-class mountain resorts.
More than a ski program, Military to the Mountains is about reclaiming physicality, pushing through mental and physical barriers, and reconnecting with what makes life feel alive after injury. On snow, participants aren’t defined by injury—they’re defined by momentum, confidence, and possibility.
This short film, created by Bjarne Salen, celebrates 10 years of impact, partnership, and perseverance—and the veterans and first responders who continue to redefine what’s possible in the mountains.
