The High Fives Charity Golf Tournament is one of my favorite days of the year. It is amazing to see so many amazing communities come together under one roof.Beth Pappas, Vail Recreation District Events/Partnerships Manager and High Fives Board of Industry Member
On August 29th, 2017 The High Fives Non-Profit Foundation hosted the 3rd Annual Colorado Charity Golf Tournament. The event, sponsored by GoPro, Phunkshun Wear, Kind Design and Craig Hospital was held at the beautiful Vail Golf Club. 120 individuals participated in this years charity golf tournament, and smiles, great weather and funds raised made it an event for the record books. Vail Recreation District generously donated the course to the Foundation.
An exciting addition to this year’s charity event, just prior to the start of the tournament, everyone turned their attention to the ninth fairway as a helicopter unloaded nearly 250 numbered golf balls from 30 feet in the air. Participants had pre-purchased the numbered balls in hopes that theirs was closest to the hole. The contest was won by Brian Butts of Vail’s Evergreen Lodge, and when it was announced, he generously donated half of his winnings back to the High Fives Foundation.
“I’ve hosted a number of golf tournaments across the country and we’ve never incorporated a contest with so many moving parts, and there was a lot of preparation to make sure the heli drop worked,” said Gina Miele, Events Manager for the High Fives Foundation. “Watching the contest go so smoothly, with such visual impact has me already looking to make next year’s contest even bigger and better!”
In true Colorado fashion, the participants were blessed with blue skies and comfortable 80 degree temperatures. Following the pre-round announcements and group picture, players loaded in their carts and headed out to their respective holes for a fun day on the beautiful fairways of Vail Golf Club. Along with recognition for the top three team scores, there were prizes for the Head Skis Men’s and Women’s Long Drive, the CMH Men’s and Women’s Closest to the Pin and the Baseball Bat Long Drive sponsored by Copper Mountain.
Upon the tournament’s conclusion participants enjoyed a buffet style dinner at the Vail Golf Club’s newly renovated clubhouse, while they watched the indoor conclusion of the putting contest.
