Darryl was injured in a backcountry Ski accident in late spring of May 2022. It was after loosing a ski when he hit some rocks and tried to boot pack down a couloir, then losing his footingand falling 1000 ft. He was wearing a helmet which he consider one of the elements to his survival.  He was also so fortunate that there was a father and son that saw the accident and were able to go call for help  This allowed his ski partner to stay with him and stabilize him while waiting for 3 hours for an evacuation by helicopter.
