While serving in the United States Army, Katie suffered a back injury. After a series of failed back surgeries, Katie was medically retired in September 2023. Shortly after leaving the military, on October 3rd Katie woke up with no feeling from the waist down. She was rushed into emergency back surgery, but the nerve damage had progressed too severely. As a result, Katie was diagnosed with incomplete paraplegia.
