Nelissa was injured while paragliding in Boulder, Colorado after an unexpected gust lifted her into the air during launch. As she attempted to land, her wing collapsed, causing a rapid spiral descent that ended in a hard impact onto rocks. The crash resulted in a spinal cord injury, fracture to her heel, and severe ligament damage in her right knee.
