Justin was injured during a ski trip in Switzerland when he landed on his head and fractured his neck, resulting in a C6/C7 incomplete spinal cord injury. He has retained some function in his left hand and stronger function in his left triceps, while experiencing very limited function on his right side. After spending three to four weeks in a Swiss hospital while working through insurance challenges to return home, he traveled to Denver and was admitted to Swedish Medical Center, where he began his recovery and rehabilitation.
