Adaptive Advancement: Friends of Clemyjontri Park

Located in McLean, VA, Clemyjontri Park is an oasis, preserved in perpetuity for everyone to enjoy. The park is the dream of our benefactor Mrs. Adele Lebowitz, who envisioned this playground and park and generously donated this 18-acre property. She and her family still live on the property today. The name CLEMYJONTRI is derived from her four children: Carolyn (CL), Emily (EMY), John (Jon), and Petrina (Tri).

We believe all playgrounds using public funds should be built to be accessible to all. Friends of Clemyjontri was founded to raise money and provide financial support for the park’s needs outside of the Fairfax County budget.

In 2010, Friends of Clemyjontri raised funds to help purchase and install Virginia’s first Liberty Swing, the world’s only wheelchair accessible swing. The innovative swing also features a built-in seat for children without wheelchairs who still require a seatbelt. In 2011, we donated a musical drum circle of instruments with an audience bench.

In April 2012, Friends of Clemyjontri held the 2nd Annual Concert in the Park event which had raised funds to help purchase and install a permanent 900 square foot tent at the park, affording much needed shade for playground users as well as providing an additional location for event use and rental.
