Barry Gilbert
Barry was injured in a rock-climbing accident when he believed he was on belay and let go at the top of a 40-foot climb, falling to the ground below. The fall caused multiple catastrophic injuries, including fractures to his spinal cord, broken ribs, pelvis and sternum fractures, and severe injuries to both legs and feet. Barry spent years recovering before being introduced to handcycling, where he has found a new way to return to outdoor adventure and competition.
“The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good people to do nothing.”
High Fives has provided:
GC1 2026 funding for maddiline adaptive bike.
“This grant will allow me to return to cycling and rejoin a community of outdoor athletes that I've been absent from, and deeply missed, since my fall and injury. I ook forward to training rides with friends, and hope to compete in one or more gravel races this year.“
