Kerry was injured while visiting Puerto Rico on vacation during a day trip to explore waterfalls, the rainforest, and local beaches. While sitting on the beach looking out at the water, a palm tree suddenly fell from behind and struck her. the impact shattered her T9 vertebra, broke all of her ribs, and caused a traumatic brain injury.
