While serving in Afghanistan in 2012, Cody was shot through his left knee. After numerous surgeries and extensive physical therapy, he managed to make a full recovery. However, ten years later, his life took another tragic turn when he was struck by a drunk driver while riding his motorcycle. The impact caused his knee to shatter, leaving it severely damaged due to the previous hardware from his earlier injury, leading to the amputation of his left leg.
