At the 2019 Sea Otter Classic, a well-known West Coast mountain bike competition, James was in an accident. He flew over his handlebars and broke his teeth, neck, T4, scapula, hand, finger, and six ribs.

James hopes to return to as normal of a life as possible and the most independent he can. He is a single father of two young daughters and doesn’t want their life to change.
