Kate Dresher
Kate was injured in 2020 during two successive sea kayaking incidents while surfing on the Oregon Coast. In the first, she struck a hidden sandbar during a roll, driving her head and spine into the sand under the force of her kayak. Shortly after, in dumping surf, another kayak landed on her, crushing her head and cervical spine. The incidents resulted in a traumatic brain injury and spinal cord damage.

High Fives has provided:
GC1 2026 funding for specialized personal training
“I see this grant as having a broad, positive influence on my recovery. The specialized personal training provided will help me regain a solid base of physical strength. This will, in turn, empower me to take on new enlivening outdoor challenges -like climbing a glaciated peak!- and provide meaningful adventure-sport contexts in which I can grow my adaptive skills and my confidence applying them.“
