Lauren Smith
Lauren was injured in September 2022 in a single-vehicle rollover accident on a rural road near Moab, Utah, while returning from a camping and hiking trip in the La Sal Mountains. After swerving to avoid a deer, she lost control of her truck, shattering her left leg and ultimately requiring a below-knee amputation. Due to the remote location, she was evacuated by two ambulances and a helicopter before waking up in the ICE as an amputee. Her recovery was further complicated by a hematoma and wound that took several months to heal, but she was grateful to have avoided any other major injuries beyond a concussion.
