On February 1, 2014, while competing in a professional Arenacross event in Milwaukee, WI, Matthew suffered a severe crash in the whoop section, resulting in fractures to his T4 and T5 vertebrae and his sternum. The accident changed the course of his life, bringing ongoing physical pain and the men tal challenges of adaptive to new limitations and missed experiences with his children. Despite these hardships, he continues to focus on finding meaning and growth through his recovery journey.
