In 2006 Monica had an accident while skiing and sustained a T-12 spinal cord injury. As Ms. Wheelchair Maine 2011, Monica received the Forty Under 40 award in the state of Maine which recognizes the dedication to leadership, professional excellence, and community involvement. Monica leads the Ms. Wheelchair Maine Leadership and Advocacy Organization to empower people with physical, mental and emotional disabilities through achievements.
