Rachel was injured while biking after completing a mountain bike route when they rode over a large split in a paved road and was thrown over the handlebars. The crash caused burst fractures of their T11 and T12 vertebrae and spinal cord compression, resulting in partial paralysis and severe neuropathy in their lower extremities.
