On August 10, 2019, Somchai was driving to his home in Mountain Home, ID on Highway 20 from Sun Valley, when he was rear-ended in a vehicle accident. The collision resulted in a C5-C7 spinal cord injury, leaving him as an incomplete quadriplegic. The accident also injured his wife and tragically claimed the lives of his three beautiful daughters, leaving him in physical and emotional turmoil.
