Athletes on the White Rim Trail

From April 21–25, seven adaptive athletes took on the legendary White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park—a 100-mile loop of red rock, steep cliffs, and unforgettable views. With five athletes riding adaptive trikes and two on standing e-bikes, this four-day backcountry bikepacking trip was more than just a challenge—it was a milestone in recovery, community, and adventure. This was the first trip led and executed by a High Fives Athlete, High Five to Jim Harris!

For High Fives Athlete and trip leader, Jim Harris, the trip marked the fulfillment of a longtime goal:

“After my spinal cord injury, riding the White Rim trail became an important yearly milestone. A few years ago, I made a goal of organizing an adaptive group for the 100-mile ride and kept striking out on permits—until finally scoring the one for this trip. It felt so rewarding to share this stunning place with other High Fives athletes and to witness them rise to the challenges of MTB riding and tent camping, all while coming together to form tight friendships.”

The trail tested the group’s endurance, coordination, and stoke. Days were filled with long climbs, scenic overlooks, and charging e-bike batteries. Nights were spent camped under the stars, swapping stories and building bonds.

Volunteer Seth, who joined his first High Fives event on this trip, shared:

“This was my fifth time riding the White Rim, and each trip has been special in its own way. But riding it with this group was something else entirely. The stress I came in with melted away. I’ve known of High Fives through equipment grants, but this was my first time being part of the crew—and now I can’t imagine not being part of it.”

This ride wasn’t just about completing 100 miles. It was about showing what’s possible when you have the right team, the right mindset, and the right mission. High Five to every athlete, volunteer, and supporter who made this ride unforgettable.
