High Five #HighFivesAthlete Megan Wemmer for achieving her Arcade Belt Goal #1!
- GOAL 1 – Complete the Pedal for Possible charity 50k hand cycle. (COMPLETED on 6/6)
- GOAL 2 – Go on a bike camping trip with boyfriend in the San Juan Islands. (TARGET DATE: 9/6)
While on a backcountry ski tour in the Arapahoe National Forrest with her boyfriend in February, Megan went to climb up to the second floor of the cabin when the ladder gave out, causing her to fall directly on her back from 12 feet in the air. The impact left Megan unable to move her lower extremities, and her boyfriend immediately hiked out of the wilderness and sent a rescue team to extract the 33 year old.
When Megan arrived at Craig Hospital in Englewood, CO, she was told that she had suffered a burst fracture at her L1 vertebrae and a dislocation of her t12 vertebrae leaving her completely paralyzed from the waist down.
Megan is a very goal oriented person and she has set lofty, but attainable goals for herself in the High Fives – Arcade Goal Belt Program. Megan’s first goal, completed on June 6, 2015, was to participate in the 50k hand cycle event at Craig Hospital – Pedal for Possible. The race took every bit of strength Megan had, but she accomplished her goal. Megan now has her sights set on her next goal of taking a bike camping trip with her boyfriend in the San Juan Islands in September.
