HIGH FIVES ATHLETE RECEIVES EMPOWERMENT GRANT | Steven Edgington

Meet #HighFivesAthlete Steven Edgington (ATHLETE #188) from South Jordan, UT

In March 2018, the High Fives Foundation disbursed $31,478.52 to 10 Athlete’s across North America.

In March, 2018 Steven applied for and received PT sessions from Neuroworx, a neuro-specific rehab facility in the Salt Lake City Area.

I hope to one day be strong enough to use my wrist to drive my chair, and/or reposition my chair without assistance. I have come so far, and still have a way to go, but with the help of High Fives and through baby steps, it seems possible.

While vacationing in Hawaii, Steven was body surfing at Hapuna Beach in Hawaii. A wave overtook his body and forced him into the sand bar below. His injury was severe. Steven burst-fractured C2 and 3. He had surgery where he was fused front and back from C1 to C5. He currently has no movement or feeling from the shoulders down. Occasionally, Steven is able to wiggle a finger or two.

Through hard work at Neuroworx, and the help of High Fives, Steven will be well on his way to achieving his goal of driving.

The High Fives Foundation supports injured outdoor sports Athletes through grant funding to be used towards reaching their recovery goals.
