April 13 was a day of exhilarating fun and community spirit at Solitude Mountain Resort, where over 100 costumed skiers and riders took on the challenge of crossing a 75-foot-long, 4-foot-deep pond constructed at the bottom of Main Street. The annual Pond Skim event is always a highlight, but this year it held special significance for the High Fives Foundation.
High Fives is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders who have sustained life-changing injuries. Through our Military to the Mountain program, we help these heroes discover the joy and freedom of outdoor action sports, including skiing and snowboarding. This year, we were thrilled to bring a group of 10 critically wounded veterans to Solitude Mountain Resort, where they could learn and experience the thrill of skiing and riding.
The Pond Skim event was more than just a fun challenge; it was a celebration of resilience, courage, and community. Seeing our veterans embrace the slopes, many for the first time since their injuries, was truly inspiring. The enthusiasm and support from the Solitude community made this experience even more memorable.
We are incredibly grateful to Solitude Mountain Resort for their generous hospitality and to all the participants and spectators who made the Pond Skim event a success. Your support helps us continue our mission to provide life-affirming opportunities for veterans and first responders. Together, we are making a positive impact, one adventure at a time.
Thank you for being part of our journey. We look forward to many more events like this, where we can come together to celebrate the power of perseverance and the joy of outdoor sports.
