A classic 1957 Willys Jeep was auctioned off at the Barrett-Jackson Auction at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center on Friday Afternoon. Known as Shirley, the car has been a fixture at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows for the last three years.
The $50,000 the car sold for at auction will go towards a program chartered by the High Fives Foundation, a Truckee-based non-profit that provides support for people with life-altering disabilities.
“It really provides hope to people who get hurt,” High Fives Foundation Founder and Executive Director Roy Tuscany said. “You can’t plan for a spinal cord injury or for a traumatic brain injury, any kind of life-altering injury, but if there’s someone who can help you through the process, that’s been there with real-life experience, I think we’re providing, instead of healthcare, we’re providing human care.”
