This past week, High Fives Athlete Lance Fenderson (@lancefenderson23) lined up at the base of America’s most legendary hill climb, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, with a mission greater than the summit.

In a custom-built M2 CSR, Lance tackled the infamous racecourse with a High Fives Foundation logo below the driver-side door and on the back of his car, proudly representing the adaptive community and everyone who has faced a spinal cord injury. Lance finished 47th overall and 10th in his division…the youngest competitor on the mountain, and the only adaptive athlete in the field.
The course was shortened due to high winds, but that didn’t stop Lance from leaving his mark. Using hand controls and pure determination, he raced not only for a podium, but to inspire others to keep pushing forward after life-changing injuries.
“Pikes Peak isn’t just a mountain. For Lance, it’s a symbol of what’s possible.”
– Yokohama
We were proud to cheer him on from the sidelines, Founder Roy Tuscany in person, and honored to have the High Fives Shield riding shotgun next to Yokohama. And we’re not done yet, Lance has his sights set on making it to the top of Pikes Peak in 2026.
