About Girls on the Run – Sierras: A life-changing, youth development program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. Their mission is “to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.”

Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) fun run with healthy living education. Our programs instill self-esteem and strong values through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training – all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.

Girls on the Run – Sierras is an Independent Council of Girls on the Run International, which has anetwork of over 191 locations across the United States and Canada.

Girls on the Run- Sierras is a 501c3 nonprofit organization incorporated in California and Nevada. Since their first season of 18 girls in Truckee, they have educated and empowered 647 girls. In Spring 2012, 98 girls participated in the program at 7 sites in Truckee, Kings Beach, Incline Village, and South Lake Tahoe. In Fall 2012 Girls on the Run-Sierras will kick off their first season in Reno, Nevada.
