First, the details:
WHAT: SAFE AS (Skiers and Snowboarders Advocating and Fostering Education AND Snow Safety) is a one-day women’s AIARE Intro to Avalanche Course, with class-room and on-snow education plus morning yoga, lunch, and apres-party and raffle.
WHO: Women ages 14 & up who go into the backcountry and/or are interested in doing so. Everyone benefits–from the beginner who has never stepped foot into the backcountry to the Level III experienced skier looking for a knowledgable refresher.

WHY: Because you’re worth it. We believe that together we can learn and grow as backcountry partners and as a greater ski and snowboard community to help the backcountry be a safe, fun, and accessible place for more people. We emphasize education, awareness, communication, and good-decision making as well as practical rescue skills in a fun, non-competitive, encouraging environment.

We have partnered with three excellent and generous organizations–Live Like Liz, Coalition Snow, and SheJumps, to help make SAFE AS affordable for everyone. We just want your participation. PRACTICAL TIP
We wouldn’t be SAFE AS without squeezing in one little tip to get you to start tuning in those backcountry brains. Remember, even if your local avalanche organization isn’t issuing forecasts yet, if there is snow on the ground, it can avalanche. Tread lightly early season. Use caution, always remember that it doesn’t take much snow to cause a significant avalanche (even one inch of new!), and stay patient. If you don’t know, don’t go. Plus, there can be a lot of rocks and hazards barely covered that can leave you couch-ridden for the rest of winter with one knick of a ski turn. We’re frothing too, but it’s a long season ahead, so let’s start off on the right foot.

Part of each entry fee plus all raffle ticket sales benefit our amazing charity partners, HighFives, the Sierra Avalanche Center, and AIARE’s Avalanche Project.
