SAFE-AS CLINICS OFFERED AT FOUR MOUNTAINS IN 2014

S.A.F.E. A.S. Clinics were started by Elyse Saugstad, Jackie Paaso, Lel Tone, Michelle Parker, Ingrid Backstrom, and Sherry McConkey. With the goals of heightening community snow safety and avalanche awareness with a women’s intro to avalanche safety clinic. Their goal is to foster an open, welcoming environment by which to encourage participation and communication.

In an effort to support snow safety education, women ski and snowboard camaraderie, and maximum fun this winter they held the clinic at four locations in December and taught by some of today’s leading female professional athletes and snow science educators, SAFE-AS is the chance to hone in on your skills, mingle, and prepare for the upcoming season. If you missed it this year there is always next year!

Led by AIARE avalanche instructor and heli-guide Lel Tone, the workshop’s A-list of educators include: professional skiers and backcountry.com athletes Elyse Saugstad, Ingrid Backstrom, Michelle Parker, and Jackie Paaso, as well certified yoga instructor Sherry McConkey. The ultimate goal of SAFE-AS (Skiers Advocating and Fostering Education for Avalanche and Snow Safety) is to heighten community snow safety and awareness surrounding women’s avalanche knowledge.
