George “Sweet” Feriend is a retired US Air Force Veteran from Reno, Nevada. He gracefully served the United States from 1984-1990. George’s time in the armed forces taught him lessons in camaraderie, team building and commitment; all necessary qualities to complete the High Fives Foundation Military to the Mountain (M2M) Program.

2019 marks the fifth year for the Military to the Mountain Program, and George’s second year participating. While it didn’t start off easy, George has made massive strides from last year.
Last year was fun, but skiing proved to be a lot harder than I could've ever imagined. The first day of this year everything clicked. My instructor was amazing and I was out there having a blast!

Each Veteran participating in the M2M Program goes through a 9-week “bootcamp” that is geared specifically toward skiing or snowboarding. 15 Veterans train at Adaptive Training Foundation in Dallas, Texas and seven train at Reno, Nevada’s Evelyn Mount Community Center. George trained with the Reno folks, and it seems like his sweat equity has paid off.

I can't wait to get back out there. I feel stronger, and more confident on the slopes. I'm really starting to like this whole skiing thing!
