Organization honors injured veterans for service

Ten disabled veterans will receive a proper sendoff at 10:15 a.m. today at the ski statue at Reno-Tahoe International Airport today after spending a week in an adaptive ski program, Military to the Mountains, at Squaw Valley Ski Resort.

The program has recognized the veterans’ efforts and contributions in the U.S. military be allowing them to spend a week on the local ski slopes as they continue their physical and emotional rehabilitation from injuries sustained during their service.

The ceremony will be led by Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows president/CEO and airport board chair Andy Wirth, members of the High Fives Foundation and airport officials. An honor guard and bagpiper processional will kick off the event through ticketing to the ski statue. The veterans then will be recognized for their service and successes on the ski slopes and from there, they and their coaches will be escorted by the bagpiper to the Transportation Security Administration area.
