The High Fives Foundation hosted its 4th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at The Golf Club at Gray’s Crossing in Truckee, Calif., on Thursday, May 15!
Nearly $30,000.00 was raised in order to support recovery and rehabilitation efforts of traumatically injured winter action sports athletes (up from $19,000.00 in 2013, $16,000 in 2012 and $6,000 in 2011). To date, the High Fives Foundation has provided grant funding to 59 injured athletes in 18 states.
“It’s always great to welcome back the golf season with the High Fives Foundation. This community-oriented organization brings such great energy to everything they are a part of; what they have done for the athletes they serve, and us personally here at the Tahoe Mountain Club is priceless,” said Golf Club at Gray’s Crossing Head Golf Professional, Travis Alley. “To see several of the High Fives Athletes attend the event and represent their respective stories of perseverance in recovery from life-altering injury was truly inspirational. It was our pleasure to host the 4th Annual High Fives Charity Golf Tournament, and we look forward to many more!”
Prior to hitting the course, five High Fives Athletes (Danny Toumarkine, Kendel Elliot, Phil Hoban, Taylor Fiddyment and Steve Wallace) greeted the field of competitors to showcase the Foundation’s ability to affect positive change through the Winter Empowerment Fund. The tournament then kicked off with an exciting Break the Glass Contest (presented by Northwestern Mutual – Ryan Williams) where golfers took their best shot at chipping a golf ball through a plate of glass. Once on the course, the field of competitors had a blast teeing off from an elevated tee-box (presented by Crestwood Construction), eating hot dogs with the Shane McConkey Foundation, taking on PGA Head Golf Professional – Travis Alley in the Beat the Pro Contest and swinging for the fences in the Smith Optics Baseball Bat Long Drive Contest. In addition to the thrilling Men’s and Women’s Closest to the Pin and Long Drive Contests (presented by A Step Above Home Care), the tournament concluded with a shoot-out in the Putting Contest (presented by Volkl Skis and Marker Bindings). Once the results were tallied, everyone involved in the tournament was treated to an exquisite pig-roast dinner presented by catered by Full Belly Deli!
