Empowering Adaptive Athletes to Explore the Backcountry
The High Fives Foundation announces that applications for the 2025 Return to Dirt trips are officially open from January 25, 2025, through March 31, 2025. This life-changing program provides individuals with mobility limitations the opportunity to experience the great outdoors by piloting adaptive off-road vehicles into backcountry areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. Apply HERE.

Return to Dirt is designed for athletes passionate about outdoor recreation but facing significant barriers due to mobility challenges. By providing specialized equipment and expert instruction, the program aims to break down these barriers and bring adventure back within reach.
Who is Eligible?
Applications are open to individuals residing in the United States or Canada who have a documented mobility limitation that prevents them from accessing nature or remote outdoor locations. Applicants must demonstrate a need for adaptive equipment and share their outdoor goals and dreams in alignment with the Return to Dirt mission. A valid driver’s license is required for those wishing to pilot the vehicles, while athletes without a license may participate as passengers.
Program Highlights:
- Need-based Accessibility: Prioritizing applicants with limited access to the outdoors.
- Glenwood Springs, CO: Most trips take place in this scenic region.
- Hand Controlled Equipment: Expert instruction.

“We’re excited to meet new athletes and spend time outdoors with new friends. My favorite thing to do is to facilitate fun and this program brings together a passion for adventure and a commitment to creating unforgettable experiences that redefine what’s possible.”
-said Founder of Return to Dirt, Tim Burr
