Return To Dirt Day Trip | June 4

Adam McLeod + Sam Ferguson

Date: June 4, 2026
Location: The Flattops, Colorado
Miles Driven: 27

The High Fives Foundation’s Return to Dirt program continues to connect athletes through unforgettable off-road adventures that inspire confidence, build friendships, and reconnect participants with the outdoors. On June 4, adaptive athletes Adam McLeod and Sam Ferguson explored Colorado’s breathtaking Flattops Wilderness, navigating challenging terrain and high-elevation trails together.

The pair climbed to nearly 10,000 feet, where lingering snowbanks created an added challenge along the route. Carefully navigating across the remaining snowfields, they pushed farther into the backcountry before arriving at the beautiful Haypress Lake, surrounded by alpine scenery and expansive mountain views.

For Sam, a Glenwood Springs local, the terrain was familiar, while Adam traveled from Maine to experience Colorado’s iconic landscapes. Adam has also participated in Bridging Bionics’ Bridging Lives Program and previously joined High Fives’ Return to Dirt experiences, making this another meaningful step in his adaptive outdoor journey.

The day highlighted the importance of trust, skill, and determination while showcasing how adaptive recreation continues to expand what’s possible. Whether tackling technical terrain or sharing stories along the trail, the experience reflected the spirit of adventure that defines Return to Dirt.

Adventure. Progress. Possibility. That’s what Return to Dirt is all about.
