From frozen lakes to the adrenaline rush of driving on ice, the High Fives Foundation’s Return to Dirt program had a truly unique experience this past February, bringing athletes together for an unforgettable time of camaraderie, new challenges, and thrilling moments. Held at the Georgetown Ice Track from February 18th to February 20th, the event welcomed 25 athletes for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to drive on a frozen lake with studded tires. Made possible by Adapt Solutions, High Five!
A New Experience for All
For ALL, this was a first-time experience—driving on ice with studs—something many had never even imagined possible. The excitement was palpable as athletes geared up for a day of adventure in an environment as cold as it was exhilarating. Georgetown Ice Track, located just off I-70 and less than an hour from Denver, provided the perfect backdrop for a weekend of speed, learning, and bonding. As the trucks and trailers set up near the wildlife viewing area, the camp atmosphere was alive with warmth from heaters and a campfire to brave the chilly temperatures.

Each day began with a driver’s meeting at 10 a.m., followed by a safety briefing and introductions. From there, it was all hands on deck, with athletes taking turns behind the wheel. While there was no set limit for driving, a few laps was all it took to feel the rush of driving on a frozen lake. With each turn, athletes got more comfortable with the challenge, learning to navigate the slippery surface. Sessions typically lasted anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes, and participants were encouraged to switch between drivers and passengers, ensuring everyone had plenty of time on the ice.
One of the most exciting aspects of this event was its visibility. Right alongside the busy I-70 highway, the ice track was visible to passing cars, who were treated to the sight of trailers, equipment, and athletes in action. Some even pulled over to take pictures or exchange a few words with those on the ice.
At its heart, the Return to Dirt program is about pushing boundaries, embracing new experiences, and building lasting relationships. For these athletes, Georgetown Ice Track was more than just a chance to drive on ice—it was a chance to redefine their limits, support one another, and create memories that would last a lifetime.
We can’t wait to see what’s next for the Return to Dirt program and all the incredible athletes who make it possible.
