Spring is synonymous with adventure, and for the High Fives Foundation, it’s all about making waves—literally. Our recent Santa Cruz Adaptive Surf Camp brought together ten adaptive athletes, three of whom experienced the thrill of surfing for the first time.
Guided by the expertise of renowned waterman Rob Jarvis, along with a team of dedicated supporters, the camp unfolded over two action-packed days on May 1st and 2nd. With Rob’s local knowledge and unwavering passion, each participant was equipped to challenge themselves and embrace the surf with newfound confidence.
“I’ve felt at home on water for a long time as a whitewater kayaker, and now I’m obsessed with surfing. Both come with some new logistics, but the High Fives culture makes sport feel organic, not adaptive. Being with this group of athletes and volunteers, all for the love of fun, was the best!”

The camp wasn’t just about catching waves; it was a testament to the resilience and determination of our athletes. Against the backdrop of Santa Cruz’s stunning coastline, friendships were forged, barriers were broken, and unforgettable memories were made.
As the waves rolled in, so did a sense of camaraderie and community, proving once again that with the right support and spirit, anything is possible. Here’s to the thrill of the ride and the boundless potential that lies beyond the horizon.
“From seeing the amount of work that goes into planning each part of the day for an entire camp. All the way to watching the plan be fully executed, was quite the experience. One that left me feeling proud to be apart of helping change peoples lives and experience the thrill of the outdoors through sports and adventure in surfing.”
