ARCADE BELT GOAL 2019 | DESIREE ROSDAHL

The Arcade Belt Program

#highfivesathlete Desiree Rosdahl gets back to work for her 2nd Arcade Belt Goal

Goal 2: Return to work part time.

As some of you may know, this past grant cycle has been the largest in the history of the High Fives Foundation (check out the article here). One of our newest athletes who came on during this cycle, Desiree, has been crushing her goals so far.

At Whiteface Mountain in upstate New York, Desiree unfortunately fell into a ravine, breaking 13 ribs and suffering a traumatic brain injury. It has been 8 and half months since her injury and she is already surpassing her goals that she set out for herself!

Desiree returned to work as a nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. As of now she is part time, but is soon going to bump up to full time! Some of the surgeons she works with were the ones to perform her surgery after her accident. Talk about coming full circle!

After her injury, as soon as she could speak coherent sentences, Desiree was asking when she could get back to work. A sense of normalcy has come with her return to the work force, something that she is very grateful for. We can’t wait to see what you do next Desiree!

Returning to work has given me a sense of normalcy back that I didn't have before. I have always enjoyed that my job allows me to work with and advocate for my patients, and now that I've been on the operating room table quite a few times from my accident, I have an even deeper respect for my role as a nurse.

The Arcade Belt Program

The Arcade Belt Program was put in place to provide our athletes with a system for setting goals. Similar to a karate belt system, athletes move through the ranks when they complete goals they set for themselves and receive a belt with stars corresponding to the goal number they accomplish.
